Graphic Design

Instructional Design and graphic design are intertwined. Both tell a story in their own unique ways. I dabbled in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Express, and Canva to creatively challenge myself while expanding my portfolio.

InDesign

New Zealand Magazine

Following a tutorial allowed me to familiarize myself with the layout and tools of InDesign and produce a compelling New Zealand magazine feature.

Rome Brochure

In my instructional design program I created an online study abroad course in Italy. I created a travel brochure highlighting course details to generate interest among students.

Salzburg Postcard

Salzburg is my favorite European city. After traveling there it left a special place in my heart. I created a postcard to encourage others to visit this iconic city. I also created the postage stamp, featuring the Austrian national flower, Edelweiss.

Floral Magazine

I love flowers, so I decided to create a mock floral magazine cover to feature azaleas.

Illustrator

Linville Gorge Logo

Linville Gorge is located in Western NC in the Pisgah National Forest. I enjoy camping here with my dad and shared my love for this area in a magazine article published in Blue Ridge Outdoors magazine (please visit “Publications” page if interested in reading).

I designed this logo to practice my design skills and capture the rugged beauty of the “Grand Canyon of the East.”

Edisto Belles

The Edisto Belles is a breast cancer awareness non-profit located in Edisto Island, SC. This updated logo highlights their mission to end breast cancer which is commemorated by the ringing of a bell. They strive for a cancer-free world when “the bell is no longer needed.”

Blood Donation Logo

During my instructional design program I created a program designed to encourage young adults to give blood. This logo embodies the lifesaving gift of blood and its impact on others’ lives.

“Lifeblood” is a fictional name of a blood donation center, similar to the Blood Connection.

Aloe Vera

I created this aloe vera plant to advertise a succulent plant sale hosted by a university. This event was designed to brighten students’ days during stressful final exam season.

This is a sample flyer created for a hypothetical event/university.

Mosaic Photography

I created this fictional photography business card to practice my design skills.

Express

Digital Badge

In my instructional design program I created a micro-credential course for 10 undergraduate business students at a fictional university. Students interested in refining their professional skills prior to beginning their business internship had the option to take this 2-day in-person course.

Topics include

  • professional attire
  • oral and written communication skills
  • conflict resolution management

Upon completion of a mock interview with a career counselor, students were awarded a digital badge to present to internship employers.

Mobile Learning

In my instructional design program I took a Mobile Learning course that explored ways to maximize learning on the go.

Presentations & Proposals

My master’s program included opportunities to design visually engaging presentations exploring trending topics in the learning and development space. I was challenged to envision myself as an instructional designer and create a context in which my projects could be implemented. This resulted in the fictional Carisbrooke University. While I was not an instructional designer at this institution many of the concepts discussed could offer actionable insights for higher education leaders.

Blockchain technology and digital badges are challenging how learning is documented. Rather than relying on traditional methods of education, badges offer an appealing option for learners to capturing their skill development via badges that can be digitally shared with employers.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been a buzzword among leaders in education, technology, government, and entertainment. While the creative force powering AI is still being explored its emerging capabilities prove transformational for society. Rather than fearing its potential, embracing this new technology in the learning and development space is essential for remaining competitive and relevant in today’s digital world.

New technologies, apps, and learning management systems emerge daily, requiring an educator to be a connoisseur of educational technology and online best practices. This presentation explores how micro-credentials offer an alternative pathway for achieving one’s educational goals.

This proposal justifies funding for an on-campus makerspace housed within Carisbrooke University’s library. While the university is fictional, the makerspace concept is gaining momentum among leading universities. In addition to being a creative outlet for students, students also have the opportunity to gain soft skills such as teamwork, collaboration, and problem-solving.

Marketing Flyers

As a graduate assistant in my master’s program I partnered with Anderson University faculty to design a newsletter and marketing flyers.

Newsletter

Here is the 2021 Fall Advisory Board Newsletter communicating MS IDLT program updates to stakeholders.

I updated the template to reflect the yearly review of Anderson University’s growing interest in the Master of Instructional Design program.

These include the curriculum overview, student population statistics, and professional development offerings.
